The McCalebs

One of the great blessings for our family is the friendship and partnership in ministry that we have with the McCalebs. They were transferred to Johannesburg back in Sept. of '05 and have been a great encouragement to us. This past week they stopped by where we're staying in Glenvista with the Browns, and we had the opportunity to catch up on what God has been doing in and through them. Here is a picture of our pizza party. Both Harrison and Carter have really grown; Carter is walking now which was fun to see. They are a great testimony to the Lord of a willingness to go wherever God wants to serve Him in whatever fashion He desires.

Let the SON Shine In

Here is an amazing sight that we saw on the way to church Sunday evening. It is amazing for several reasons. First of all I'm told that it is unusual to have clouds like this in winter here in South Africa--so we were blessed by this gift. Second, it reminds me that only God could create something so beautiful. No human could capture such an amazing picture in their imagination, and certainly chance would not happen upon such a visual. Third, it reminds me of the power of the sun piercing through the darkness and how Jesus, the Son of God can chase away all darkness. Finally, I'm always stirred by the picture of rays through a cloud. It is to me a visual of the time when we will hear the trumpet of God calling His saints home (1 Thess. 4:16). You know, no matter where we go in this wide world, we see the hand of God reminding us of Who is in control. Our hearts are encouraged that God has a perfect plan for us and we rest in that plan.

Our Flight to Johannesburg

We made it to Joburg!! It was a great trip, but long--longer than I remembered and complicated by the fact that we now stop at these islands off the coast of western Africa to refuel and change pilots. But the kids did great and enjoyed their trip. The picture is of us sitting in the plane just before we departed. We weren't sure if we would take off before all the bad weather with the tropical storm really hit, but praise the Lord, we did take off and it was a fairly smooth ride. We left at 10:30am Tuesday and arrived at 10:30am Wednesday. So our bodies aren't quite sure where they are nor what time it is.

One of the great blessings was the new friend that we made on the flight. He lives in a western suburb of Joburg and his name is Xavier. He was part of the South African team that came to America to participate in a bass-fishing tournament--they took third. He is a great guy and we look forward to developing a relationship with him and his family. Pray for us in this matter.

Another great blessing is the way in which our friends came to our aid the last week. We found out this winter was very cold, and we were not prepared for this, but God provided for us extra sweaters and shirts through the graciousness of many friends. Needless to say, we had to bring extra boxes with us, and when we arrived and waited for our luggage, we were missing 5 of them. Our thoughts returned to our trip to Fiji the first time, but just before we were to file for missing luggage, they brought in the remainder of our boxes. Then God prepared the way and we sailed through customs, and rounded a corner where we were met by about 15-20 friends and team members. It was a great blessing to see familar and smiling faces.

Pray for us now as we look for a home and vehicle. Our search has been cut short by a holiday weekend, but that gives us time to rest up. That is all for now. Thanks so much for praying for us and encouraging us in this move. God is good!
