Foothill Bible Church

On my second trip now to California I had some more fruitful visits with churches and pastors. I want to introduce you to one of the churches that I visited, Foothill Bible Church. This very missions-minded church is located in--as you can probably guess--the foothills of the mountains to the northeast of Sacramento. It is in both a beautiful and very interesting area, where the very flat valley edges up to the mountain rise where Lake Tahoe is located. I went from a warm and pleasant temperature with a gentle breeze in the valley to snow, rain and wind up in the mountains. I went from a beautiful and fruitful farmland to majestic mountains with beautiful waterfalls. I went from busy roads and crowded developments to sweeping expanses of wilderness that leaves you in wonder and awe. In the midst of this diverse geographic area is a diverse church congregation led by Pastor Verne Nakasone. I met a farmer, a roofer, a state investigator, an air traffic controller and to my great surprise an old friend from college within this body of believers. To my great delight I met a church who loves their pastor, appreciates his labor and teaching and has a great heart for missions and missionaries. I spent a wonderful week with my hosts, Dennis and Patsy Stark and enjoyed developing a friendship with many in this church. And I got to see firsthand of the potential for ministry in this area that is one of the fastest growing areas in all of the country. Is it amazing to think that God put this church here knowing that down the road incredible growth and opportunity was coming, and He wanted a witness in place beforehand. As is evidenced in the ministry of Foothill Bible Church, God has an incredible plan in place and all He desires from us is faithfulness and obedience to that plan.
